about
We commissioned a young Nambour artist, Benjamin Paskins to do the sleeve art. Initially, he was excited by the brief and spent time out at the farm with us, talking and listening to Geoffrey’s ‘back in the day’ stories.
But as time progressed he became distant, lethargic and his memory cloudy. It was clear he was sinking into depression. He had submitted to the Queensland mental health system in the hope of relief. It didn’t help.
Before he would have the opportunity to see his work adorning ours, he suicided. He was a beautiful young man and a gifted artist who could not imagine a future for himself in this country. He is not alone.
lyrics
When you brought the flowers and the axe
I knew what you might do
But you took the chainsaw from the ute
and carved your name so deep into that tree
Ah ah ah, Ah ah ah
I had always thought you were a special effects alien,
So when you spoke to me in plain English
I nearly cried ‘cause I could understand you
Ah ah ah, Ah ah ah
Then you called the angels from the sky
with trumpets at the gates of dawn
I was surprised, but not for long
Ah ah ah, Ah ah ah
When we saw the hub-cap saucer in the sky
we might have spied or seen crop circling
But the zombies came onto the heath
there was relief, we gave them Keith
Later when they were stretched
with bloodless gums they ripped our flesh
Instrumental
When the scapegoat has outrun the temple walls
they’ll come, and take it back with a gun
Then you brought the flowers and the axe
I know what you might do
But you took the chainsaw from the ute
And carved your name so deep, into that tree
Ah ah ah, Ah ah ah
